Go Green - Home Efficiency
Why Green
- 1.) Energy Savings. Because of increased water and energy efficiency, you'll save thousands of dollars over the life of your home.
- 2.) Indoor Air Quality. Green homes feature superior indoor air quality, which improves their overall livability. Green building reduces pollutants such as chemicals and mold, and improves ventilation so your family can breathe easier.
- 3.) Peace of Mind. Green homes are built with the environment in mind. From energy and water efficiency, to reduced construction waste and the use of renewable materials, you can take pride in the fact that your home has a reduced impact on the environment.
An example of our Green Home building is our standard insulation package which includes:
- Sill sealer between foundation and sill plate
- Caulk bottom plate of exterior walls
- Caulk/foam all electrical, plumbing, heating penetrations between floors and to exterior
- Insulate or foam between windows/door jambs and framing
- Recycled cellulose blown insulation in exterior walls, eliminating gaps typical of fiberglass (http://www.applegateinsulation.com/) and providing 16% more R-value
- Continuous recycled cellulose insulation in attics
- The US Department of Energy has demonstrated that the use of a house wrap can provide 25 percent to 40 percent savings a year on energy costs in a typical home.
